Newport Regatta Christchurch took a fleet of crews across the Solent to Newport on Saturday, set in the picturesque location on the river Medina, the conditions were perfect for a packed day of racing.
The Men’s Junior 4 were the first of the Christchurch finalists, in one of the closest finals of the day they were nudged into a credible 3rd place. The women’s Junior 4 of Fleur Howcroft, Julia Fabrizi, Anna Long, Millie Campbell coxed by Katya Cherskova made it through to the final as fastest losers. Having struggled to find form over recent regattas, surpassed all expectations, narrowly losing to BTC and beating Coalporters, the current league leaders. The regatta belonged to the Christchurch masters crews with wins in Men’s masters 40s of Rob Standley, Jay Simpson, Nick Dimmock and James Reynolds, coxed by Faye Standley and the Men’s Masters 50s of Phil Scantlebury, Tony Rosewarn, Craig Parkins and Mark Heard with Tara Myring-McCullagh coxing and the women’s Masters crew of Laura Campbell, Lucy Hart, Emma Fairclough and Sara Glen coxed by Vicky Robinson extending their league lead to 5-1. This plus all the 2nd and 3rd wins earned Christchurch the point’s aggregate trophy for the most successful Club of the day. Crews will next be in action at Southsea on Saturday
