Success for Christchurch rowing Club at prestigious Silver Sculls rowing competition.
On Saturday 20th October some juniors and Masters represented Christchurch rowing club at the prestigious Silver sculls competition in Weybridge. With the warm temperature and the sun shining it meant for some busy river traffic, but some great conditions.
At a head race scullers are set off with 30 secs separating them. Sol, William and Molly had seen the times from earlier divisions and knew there was work to be done. Sol Hewitt went first representing Christchurch for the Men’s Junior 17s. He made a strong start and quickly caught up with opposition, frustratingly, just after a tight corner he caught up with another sculler where his polite efforts asking her to move aside were to no avail, but thankfully the marshals became involved clearing the way for Sol to row on to first position. William Tate was in a big category of Men’s Junior 16s and held a strong scull all the way through, finishing a great 5th in his competitive band.
Molly Morris held off much opposition and her race left her with a fantastic second position in the Women’s Junior 16 category.
The Masters represented well too with a couple of 2rd, 3rd and 4th places. Over all it was a wonderful day’s racing with some fantastic results.
