Saturday 16th June saw Christchurch Rowing Club competing at Woolston Regatta.
It was touch and go as to whether Woolston Regatta, 7th in the Hants and Dorset League series would actually get underway. High winds and rough sea conditions led to talk of event order changes and cancellations. However, the hosts Southampton Rowing Club made the brave decision for the Regatta to proceed as planned.
Event 2 was a combined Junior and Senior Women’s pairs event. Lucy Hart and Sara Glen were able to repeat their success at last week’s Itchen Regatta winning Junior pairs to take their season tally to 5-1 and beating the Senior pairs in the process.
The headlines of the day went to Christchurch’s Women’s Junior Fours. With 4 crews in the heats and 3 making it through to the final, it only needed a win for one of those 3 crews for Christchurch to win their 7th league point in a row and secure the league title. It came down to a close finish with Christchurch A (Lucy Hart, Kat Burgess, Emma Moran, Lucy Woods, Cox Ollie Gillingham) being pipped to the post by Christchurch D (Jordan Draga, Katya Cherskova, Charlie Brad, Kiera Browning cox Ed Irwin). With that The league title was in the bag and Christchurch’s domination of the Junior sweep oar events looks set to continue.
