Lizzie Lander and Charley Wedderburn were selected to attend the GB J16 sculling training camp over the Easter weekend. The camp was held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham in quads and doubles. These crews were allocated beforehand and given coaches that had travelled to Nottingham with other athletes. The purpose of the camp was to provide athletes with high potential and a track record of top results, with the tools that they would need to progress their international aspirations.
After arriving at a strangely windless Nottingham, camp began at 10:00 on Easter Sunday. Everybody was on the water by 11:00 in their new crews and started the many laps of the 2k lake that they would do over the following two and a half days. Apart from the technical sessions on the water, Charley and Lizzie participated in land sessions ranging from posture, flexibility, strengthening and technique through to anti doping and apprenticeship opportunities.
We would like to thank the GB Junior coaching team and the other junior participants on the camp for providing such an educational, supportive and inspirational environment.
