Itchen junior Regatta

October 11, 2014

Christchurch Rowing Club and affiliates Bournemouth Collegiate School joined forces for the popular Autumn Junior Regatta hosted by Itchen RC on a day of bright sunshine and torrential rain.

In Girl’s J15 single sculls Stephanie Dodsworth stormed to victory 4 lengths ahead of Itchen and Adam Chadwick making his sculling debut for CRC in Boy’s J12 single sculls secured a 2 length win over Newport RC sculler despite some early steering problems

The Boy’s J15 single sculls was a three boat needle match of CRC and BCS from which Josh Honeyman emerged the victor for CRC by 2 lengths.

Kiera Browning took the Girl’s J14 singles to complete a hat trick with her J12 and J13 wins at Itchen in the previous two years.  This year it was the turn of debutant Harriet Lindon -Thomas to capture the Girl’s J13 honours recovering from a shipwreck to hold on to less than a length lead over the local BTC opposition.

The Boy’s J16 and J14 singles titles went to CRC’s Richard Quinn and Chris Betts respectively, both pushing Coalporters scullers into second places with margins of 3 and 5 lengths.

CRC also dominated in double sculls with the Girl’s J13 (Cheetham and Berridge), Girl’s J15 (Perry and Dodsworth) both beating Itchen crews; Girl’s J16 (Elmy-Liddiard and Woodpower) in an exciting half length defeat of Poole RC, and the Boy’s J16 doubles event where a composite with BCS (Quinn and Cavill) finished 3 lengths up on Itchen.

Coxed quadruple sculls events were also fruitful for the CRC Boys and Girls squads with the GJ14 crew, Honey Lander, Emma Cheetham, Lisa Berridge, Kiera Browning(str), Katya Cherskova(cox) winning comfortably and in a new CRC/BCS composite, Harriet Lindon –Thomas, Emma Cheetham, Lisa Berridge, Kiera Browning(str), Grace Tebbutt(cox) with three lengths in hand inflicted another defeat on Itchen. The GJ16 crew, Libby Perry, Amelia Woodpower, Danny Elmy-Liddiard(str), Grace Tebbutt(cox) with an Itchen substitute in the spirit of sportsmanship took the line three lengths ahead of Poole RC , Southampton trailing in third place.

Boy’s J13 coxed quad,   Adam Chadwick, Alex Ratcliffe, Charlie Ranson, Frank Canelas(str), Katya Cherskova(cox)were never threatened by local club BTC with the outcome a comfortable win for CRC.  It was a harder race for the Boy’s  J15 quad racing in heavy rain but Josh Honeyman, Gabe Dixon,  Jake Lovell,  Harry Hayward-cox (str),..........(cox),  came from behind with a push into the last 200 metres to claw back a length and a half lead.

At the end of a well organised event by Itchen RC Christchurch emerged Victor Ludorum with 37 points from 19 wins.

The Junior scullers will form part of a large contingent of CRC Seniors and Masters attending Weybridge Silver Sculls next week to take on top class scullers from the Thames Valley area.
