Lymington Rowing Club, hosts of the Milford Rowing Regatta, were favoured with better conditions than are more often experienced on that part of the Solent enabling the full programme of racing to be completed, whilst still testing the skills of the assembled crews from the twelve Hants and Dorset clubs taking part.
Christchurch Rowing Club, despite getting three Ladies Novice crews and one Men’s Novice crew into their respective finals, were unsuccessful at this status but fared better in the J16 event where the Boys’ crew Kit Mersey, Harry Lawton-Hurst, George Robinson, David Parker(str), Katya Cherskova(cox), fought it out to the line with BTC to clinch first place by half a length in one of the closest races of the day. The CRC J16 Girls achieved second place in their race behind Itchen Imperial.
At the other end of the range, the Ladies Masters crew in their second race this season got a step closer to winning in another tight finish taking second place to Southampton ARC by just half a length.
The Christchurch Ladies Senior Pair Hunt and Quinn suffered a clash with Ryde on the return leg which certainly took its toll, and had to settle for second place to Itchen. The Men’s Senior Pair Rabbetts and Rose put up a good fight against the more experienced Lymington pair finishing in second place three lengths down with Itchen third.
The Ladies Senior Fours race resulted in Christchurch A and B crews taking second and third places to Coalporters with a two and a half length margin.
With lots to build on , the Christchurch crews will be dusting themselves off in readiness for the long day of three-boat racing at Coalporters Regatta with the Junior squad travelling to Walton Regatta, both on 7th June.
